Compacting tables (22nd Nov 2005)
Page 112, heading Loose Ends: There is a discussion on Doug Burns’ blog about the point discussed in this section. I won’t comment on it further here, other than adding that if I can manage to squeeze it into the reprint, I shall change the last sentence of the final paragraph to look something like:
“If you have used the technique discussed in the previous section
for correcting the effect ASSM has
on the clustering_factor,
then compacting tables may well nullify the effort …”

Errata
Typos (10th Feb 2006)
Page 100, 3rd para from end, first line: “actually a just a low/high” should be “actually just a low/high”
Page 111, Section Informal Strategies, 2nd para: “you will see that the they have a” should be “you will see that they have a”
Reverse Key indexes (22nd Nov 2005)
Page 94, Paragraph 2: I said that reverse key indexes were introduced in Oracle 8.1. In fact they appeared in 8.0.
Thanks to K Gopalakrishnan for spotting this error.
