Workshop Plan
11/5 - 11/6, 2018
Objectives for attendees:
a) Learn how to design and conduct publishable research in specific areas
b) Know how to publish research in selected science education journals (e.g., JRST, IJSE, JSTE)
c) Receive feedback and suggestions to improve sample research plans and draft articles
Target audience:
a) master and doctoral students in science education (chemistry, physics, biology and earth science education)
b) faculty, particularly early career faculty
Overall consideration: Each workshop will be 3 hours; it will focus on designing and conducting research in one
specific area with a purpose to publish in a reputed refereed science education journal. The workshop facilitator
will specifically introduce one journal for which he/she is current or former editor-in-chief and how to publish
in that journal. There will be two concurrent workshops in each half day from the morning of 11/5 to the
morning 11/6, thus 6 workshops altogether. Graduate students and faculty will sign in/register in advance to
attend one of the two concurrent workshops each half-day; therefore, each person can attend up to three
workshops.
Further, during each workshop, four students will make their presentation by English (e.g., dissertation research
proposals), and the workshop facilitator will make suggestions to revise the papers and suggest specific journals
to submit to.
